Currently we have some issues with the .us NIC that make the siteo.us domain suspended due to abusive spammers. To keep the service still up and running, we are moving to new domain, steo.us. Sorry for the inconvenience, we still try to get siteo.us up soon. Hope we can run with both domain at a time. Also, steo.us is shorter, although just one character.

Integration with Twitter for iPhone

After Siteous and TweetDeck, now we can integrate Siteous with Twitter for iPhone. You also can use this Twitter for iPhone application also on your iPad and iPod Touch.

First, go to Accounts menu, then tap Settings button. Tap Services, and then tap URL Shortening. There will be some options for URL shortener services. Choose Custom…. In the Custom page, insert this URL in the text box:

http://steo.us/core.api/?url=%@

After that, tap Save button on upper right. Tap Done button twice to out from Settings menu.

To shorten URL. Just type (or paste) the URL on your tweet when composing new tweet. Before posting, tap the button on the right-top of keyboard (that showing your remaining character). Keyboard will disappear, and be replaced with other new menus. Tap Shrink URLs button.

Shortening process will take some time, depends on your internet speed on your iPhone. Unfortunately, Twitter for iPhone does not have any indicator while shortening the URL. But, sometimes internet activity indicator on status bar can be helpful.

PS: Twitter for iPhone was Tweetie. So, you also can apply this to Tweetie 2, if you still have it, hehe.

Google Mobilizer

Siteous has been used mostly for social media that limited in characters such as twitter or Plurk. Then, since the usage of those social media have increased on mobile devices, there are much “desktop-formatted website” that shorten with siteous that browsed on mobile devices.

And now, Siteous has integrated Google Mobilizer. So, you can open the “mobilized” version of web from your mobile device. Just add “m/” between “siteo.us” and the short-key. For example, http://siteo.us/c3i is a short for http://areamagz.com/article/read/2010/10/27/refresh-your-gear-with-adidas , then you can go to http://siteo.us/m/c3i and siteous will open the mobilized version of that page.

Mobilizer is very useful to open the “real-estate” web pages from mobile devices. Have fun!

Since Google Wave has the WaveThis feature, then I implement it to siteous. And, now you can waving your short url and enjoy the wave.

Siteous and TweetDeck

As of 0.34 TweetDeck allows you to use URL shortening services not in the default set

You are able to enter a URL shortening endpoint by navigating to: Settings > Services. Then, click on the url shortening drop down box and select: ‘Other’.

You will then be presented with new options which will allow you to enter the shortening endpoint. Enter the endpoint:

http://steo.us/core.api/?url=%@

And then click ‘Save Settings’. From now on, any url you enter than needs shortening, will be shortened using siteous.

PS: Currently, this integration is available only on TweetDeck Desktop edition. The iPhone OS edition is not yet supporting this integration.

The keys are combined from numbers, lowercase letters and uppercase letters. And we are not using special characters for the keys. Special characters are reserved for some functions or features in the future.

But, sometime if you got three characters or more that are combination of numbers, lowercase and uppercase letters, it should be “not good”. Especially the combination of lowercase and uppercase. There is no problem for the computing. But sometime you have to say or spell it. Yes, say or spell with your mouth. You have to distinct the lowercase and uppercase clearly with your mate, ought to the case-sensitive keys.

Then, now Siteous just using numbers. Start with two digits, but sometimes it will be three digits. Maybe, for two month. Then we will use lowercases. Then uppercases. And roll…

Siteous Bar. Clean Up the Mess. Mixx.

Okay, these recent days maybe some hard days. I have done some improvisation, new feature (on test), and cleaning up some messy things.

First, I cleaned up the “most siteous” page. Give it a new look. A new section, “recently clicked”. And socialize them. So, you can look for some interesting links right there, and you can directly share it on your favourite social network service.

API. There was something bad with API. I just know the bug in recent days, and I cleaned up all the messy things with the API. So, you can use the API as before. And yes, without the messy things.

More social with Mixx. I do not use Mixx, but I think it is cool. Are you using Mixx? so use it directly with Siteous social capability.

My new toy is Siteous Bar. But it is still on trial. With it, you will have a “siteous bar” on the page. With the bar, you would easily share the page into social network services, flag it as “broken link” or “dead link” and see more information about the short URL.

How to use the bar? just add an asterisk at the end of url. For example, if your short URL is http://siteo.us/KY, then add an asterisk. So, you will get http://siteo.us/KY! on your address bar.

Another shot, if you are using the old-school URL like http://siteo.us/go/KY , so you will get the the same result with the asterisk: the bar.

I will finish the bar soon. And I will make the “link detail information” page after that. So, you can see the link information such as last clicked time, first time created, total clicks, and more.
